Here’s How to Start an Awesome, Amazing Monday

Ever notice that most people hate Monday? I’ve never been able to figure that one out.

I understand it, I just can’t figure it out. I think my problem is, my head seems to work different than a lot of people’s. I love Monday’s! It’s my favorite day of the week.

Most people live for weekends

That’s right, most people live for weekends. But here’s how I look at the week. There are seven days, I’m going to work at least five of them, and then there are the two that fall right after Friday. I made a choice a long time ago that I was going to focus on doing what I needed to do to be able to love the part between Sunday and Saturday. After all, that is most of the week.

I’m going to give you three things you can do when you get out of bed on Monday morning that will start your day off with a smile and may even make Monday your favorite day of the week.

Plan your wake-up

Do you have an alarm clock by your bed? Do you use your phone as your alarm clock? What does that sound like? Is it a loud buzzer? Do you have it set to a radio station that plays loud, hard-charging music? If you do, these kinds of things are setting you up to start your week on the wrong foot.

Set the chime on your phone to something gentle and soothing. Maybe chimes or bells, or if you’re using your radio set it to more relaxing music.

That way, when you wake up your body will be taking in something soothing to start the day.

Water before coffee

Hydration is very important. As you sleep your body dehydrates and when you wake up in the morning, even though you might not be able to hear it, it is screaming for water.

Hydration is so important that Navy SEALs typically keep 24 ounces of water beside the bed and immediately after their feet hit the floor they hydrate.

When water hits your system it increases the flow of oxygen and helps produce muscle and blood cells. It jumpstart your metabolism which can help you maintain a healthy weight. Hydrating before eating helps purify your body by flushing out toxins and nutrients can be absorbed more easily.

Your brain tissue 76% water (remember that next time you’re tempted to call someone an airhead.) When you’re dehydrated you feel tired and drained and that glass of water first thing in the morning helps to rehydrate your brain.

Okay, now you can have a cup of coffee.

Observe nature

You’re out of the shower, you’re dressed and you’re looking for your phone or your laptop. Stop right there. Open the door and go outside and take a look at the sky or a tree or anything nature has for you. If you can’t get outside, open the shades and look out the window. Communing with nature first thing in the morning will help to set the tone for a great day.

There you have it, a quick formula for kicking your day off so that Monday can be your best day of the week. You can do it, it just takes a little practice.

The best thing about expecting Monday to be a fantastic and exciting day is that almost everyone else you meet is facing the day with a sense of dread. If you’re excited about Monday you’ll find you hit the ground running and leave pretty much everyone else in the dust.

So have a great day, as a matter of fact, have a great Monday. And then look forward to following it up with a great Tuesday.
