Have You Actually Had Enough Whining? Stop It Immediately!

Face it, there is no shortage of people in the world who seem to make a career out of whining.

Even worse, we all do it. I can be as guilty of whining is the worst whiner I know. I’ll bet you can to. It’s just a matter of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Bad things happen and there’s nothing we can do about it. Or is there? Certainly bad things are going to happen to us, that’s called “real life.” But there really is something we can do about it, and sense we are talking about gratitude this week you’ve probably guessed that I’m going to tell you that being grateful is the solution to bad things happening.

I know that sounds counter intuitive, but that’s exactly what I’m saying.

When bad things happen we have two options, we can whine about it or we can take a deep breath and look for something positive in the event. For example, let’s say you’re standing in line at the supermarket. I don’t know about you, but I don’t do well in lines. I’m much too impatient and I think that’s a trait that I share with almost everyone.

When we are caught in that line, we have two choices. The first choice is to be frustrated. That will drive your blood pressure up, probably cause some acid reflux, and take your mind off everything else going on in your life.

It will also probably poison the next interaction you have because you’re not going to be in a good mood. Sound familiar? It does to me.

The second choice is to take a deep breath and realize that you can’t control the situation. You have the opportunity to make the most of what could be wasted time. You could use that time to think about the important things that you have to do that day, what’s on your agenda? You could use that time to reflect on an important relationship and what you could do today to show that person how much you value them.

You get the idea, you have a choice. You can be a whiner or you can be a candle lighting the darkness.

The most effective way to stop other people from whining that you is to make sure that you don’t whine at them. Be the person who makes a difference. Set the standard, trust me, people will notice and people will follow your leadership.

All it takes is letting gratitude empower your life.

Give it a try today and jot down the results in your gratitude diary. I’m pretty sure you’ll be amazed at how much your day improves.
