I’m way too lazy to do ten things. Even to own the world. That’s too much work. But I am willing to do one. Especially when I also get to NOT do one thing.
If you’re a lazy mathematician, doing one thing and not doing one equals doing nothing! THAT I can do.
The one thing to do in 2017 is: MAKE A DECISION.
The other thing that is the NOT: MAKE A “TO DON’T LIST.”
Let’s take them one at a time.
Make a decision.
For most people, 2017’s New Year’s Resolutions will be a rerun of their 2016 New Year’s Resolutions. And their 2015 New Year’s Resolutions.
We don’t mean to do this, but we confuse ideas with decisions.
That’s why people have 20 business ideas but no businesses. Or five more pounds than they had when they “decided” to lose 10 pounds last year.
The difference in 2017 is going to be simple: we’re going to make one decision to do one thing. Not a dozen things, just one.
What’s the one thing that will make the most difference in your life?
Getting a promotion or a new job? Starting your own business? Finding THAT relationship? Getting out of debt? Learning how to live stress free?
Whatever that one thing is, are you willing to make a decision to do whatever is necessary to accomplish that one thing?
If you’re not willing to do that, stop right now. Otherwise you’re wasting time that you could spend watching football, drinking beer, or eating fast food.
If you’re reading this you’re on board, right?
Take just a moment and write down what that one accomplishment is going to be. Be specific. Now take a deep breath and put that slip of paper somewhere you can look at it every day.
Congratulations, you’ve started on the way to achieving your #1 goal.
But you’ve done that before, right? Why will this time be different? Because you’ve made a decision to accomplish the goal, not just work on it. It’s not a “resolution,” it’s your goal.
Tomorrow, we’re going to learn what NOT to do that will keep us from achieving our goal. The day after that, we’re going to learn the basic steps to make sure this goal NEVER appears on your list of New Year’s Resolutions again.
You’ll be surprised to discover that making a big, positive change in your life is less difficult that you could imagine.
Stay tuned, see you tomorrow.
